Gaming laptop vs regular laptop reddit

I've been searching for laptops endlessly.

I won't be carying it much, mostly on lap in bed for watching movies, some ocasional gaming as well.

I've got a gaming desktop so gaming is not my top priority.

Since I want it to be nice to watch movies the screen is important. So IPS and nice colors is crucial.

Battery life is not important.

As far as I see it, the gaming laptops are the best deals, but will their screen be worse than regular laptops that I will notice a difference?

Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKB-951: i5-7300HQ, IPS full hd mate, GTX 1050 2GB, 128gb ssd + 1TB HDD, 8gb RAM

Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKB-578: i7-7700HQ, IPS full hd mate, GTX 1050TI 4GB, 256gb ssd, 8gb RAM

Any of these you'd recommend? How are their screen quality?

Thanks for any help!

I was thinking of getting one in the near future, and since PC computer part prices are still on fire rn, I don’t think I could just go ahead and build a PC. So one alternative is the laptop, should I get one or nah?

If you needed a new laptop would you buy a gaming laptop or a regular laptop? I'm on the fence of buying a regular laptop vs buying a gaming laptop and needed some people's opinion on the topic.

Today when I walked into my economics class I saw something I dread every time I close my eyes. Someone had brought their new gaming laptop to class. The Forklift he used to bring it was still running idle at the back. I started sweating as I sat down and gazed over at the 700lb beast that was his laptop. He had already reinforced his desk with steel support beams and was in the process of finding an outlet for a power cable thicker than Amy Schumer's thigh. I start shaking. I keep telling myself I'm going to be alright and that there's nothing to worry about. He somehow finds a fucking outlet. Tears are running down my cheeks as I send my last texts to my family saying I love them. The teacher starts the lecture, and the student turns his laptop on. The colored lights on his RGB Backlit keyboard flare to life like a nuclear flash, and a deep humming fills my ears and shakes my very soul. The entire city power grid goes dark. The classroom begins to shake as the massive fans begin to spin. In mere seconds my world has gone from vibrant life, to a dark, earth shattering void where my body is getting torn apart by the 150mph gale force winds and the 500 decibel groan of the cooling fans. As my body finally surrenders, I weep, as my school and my city go under. I fucking hate gaming laptops.

I'm looking for a high-performance, but affordable laptop. I see that BestBuy has some interesting laptops that are affordable (under 1,000/ 1,200) and have the specs I'm looking for (16GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GPU, i7, etc.).

But I don't know much about laptops and hardware, so what's the catch? Is there a professional/business trade off for the gaming laptop?

I'm also leery about walking into conferences and network meetings with a laptop sporting a rainbow glow keyboard and a logo designed like a trampstamp. Seems silly? As these laptops seem to be targeting young people/kids?

So, I just need help with a laptop. I have a gaming desktop to play demanding games, but I just want maybe something cheaper than an 1800$ gaming laptop I have found.
Personally, I want something great for college, and low tier gaming (Minecraft, classic battlefront I|II, Roblox, and Wolfenstein ET).

I’m saving up for a gaming laptop since I have no space in my house for a gaming pc, and I’d like to know the difference.

In my opinion, I think it's better to buy gaming pc's rather than laptops because of these reasons:

- It's a whole lot more expensive

- It's prone to getting stolen (especially on poor countries like mine) because it stands out more than your average laptop.

-bad battery life

- It's also prone to having a smaller lifespan because of some people gaming too much.

- People saying you're a showoff and a rich kid because you can afford one. I get a few friends who get these types of comments but then, who cares about what they think? But then again it's kind of annoying.

While I like the idea gaming on the go, I prefer to game using my cellphone or Tablet instead. The triple AAA games that I play can wait at home where my gaming computer is safe.

What are your thoughts?
